Pitch Installation Begins at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium

Bay Shore, NY (May 2, 2024) – Preparations for the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium are in full swing as the installation of the pitches, a pivotal aspect of stadium construction, commences ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup series scheduled for June. The LandTek Group has diligently prepared the pitches at LTG Sports Turf One, the company’s Florida location, since December of 2023. With help and guidance from Adelaide Oval, The LandTek Group employed proprietary techniques to ensure optimal growth, maintenance, and development of the pitches over the last six months.

Prior to installation, a fleet of 20 tractor trailers operated by a team of 40 drivers were utilized to transport the trays 1,250-miles from Florida to New York. Pitches were cut in half and loaded by crane onto trucks for the trek to New York, and each tray was individually wrapped to protect the soil and grass from drying out during transit, hence creating a microclimate. Temperature changes were encountered during the trip as drivers made their way through Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York. Drivers traveled through the night to prevent the grass from going dormant due to the climate changes and a moisture probe was used to verify that the trays maintained the optimal growing environment during transit.

Upon arrival at Eisenhower Park, trays were lifted by crane and lowered onto the laser graded base, forming the four-strip wicket block. The LandTek Group utilized fertilization techniques to ensure the establishment of the rootzone. Over the next month, The LandTek Group will complete the final irrigation pieces and sod installation, begin pitch maintenance, install water connections for stadium use, complete stadium perimeter fencing and gates, fine-tune outfield perimeter and perform additional civil infrastructure.
